Saw a lady in a skulls and roses T shirt recently who looked at me like I was crazy for saying "nice t shirt!"

That's because she was being retro cool. God help us, but it's true - the Dead are hip fashion. Take this:

Hip fashion? My first reaction was, ohmigod, nooooo ...

My second reaction was, that's exactly what I thought in the mid '80s when the Dead t-shirts started to multiply. Hip? Fashionable? Noooooo ...

Well, as it turned out, we will survive. Will even survive ... what's his name? Timberlake? I gather he's famous. Couldn't pass a test on who exactly he is.

I love UncleJohn's list and all the responses here. One to add to the list would be, "reads the list, gets it, and could talk at length about why exactly it's wrong and/or doesn't apply to them even though they're actually reading it on a GD site."

I live in fear that, on of these Fathers days, my son will buy me a Dead tee.

BTW - I him and some of his pals to see Mr. Timberlake a few years ago (hero for one night). Turns out he's a fabulous performer with great stage chemistry. Seems like he's going to be a pretty good actor too. Who knew?

Yeah, I figure anyone who gets "up there" in the fame category has the goods -- famous actors/singers have charisma/talent, big politicians aren't REALLY dumb (no, not even easy whippingboys/girls like Dubya and Palin ... not really ... even if you wouldn't want them on your quiz team.)

Whether you like The Famous Ones or not, and whether or not their style/policies/music is your cuppa herbal tea, they've got fans/followers for a reason. Even if it's just brilliance at self-promotion with enough talent and charisma to back it up, that's not negligible. If it turns out Timberwho can act and actually crosses over from the Pop Celeb Dark Side, more power to him. Oh, and Justin Bieber too. Plus I think Paris Hilton is actually a smart cookie. (How's that for controversial?)

There are too many Justins. They need to stop naming them all Justin if I'm supposed to keep track of them.

Ha! I think you have put your finger on it. "willingness to argue at length about the definition of 'deadhead'" ...
